Microsoft has announced a promotion for new Dynamics NAV customers. Anyone buying a new NAV system between now and June 22nd 2012 will pay just £1,800 for the first five users. This applies to either of the two licensing options for NAV.

Unlike previous Microsoft promotions where I’ve been slightly cynical, this one is genuinely great news for customers. Firstly the time scale means it does not attempt to force customers to make hasty decisions. After all, investing in a new ERP / finance system is an important decision for any organisation. Product fit and partner ability to deliver are far more important than price. Having said that, it’s always nice to get a discount; on a 5 user system this would represent 67% although I still think at that level you’re more likely to be looking at an entry level solution. On a 20 user licence it could be as much as 18%.

Secondly, this time there is no compulsory three year BREP tie in. First year is mandatory but that’s true whether discounted or not. (BREP, or Business Ready Enhancement Plan, is the Microsoft maintenance plan providing access to new versions, service packs and on line training / user community).

The only caveat is that customers taking advantage of this cannot transition to another Dynamics solution for at least two years. This is why it’s great that prospective customers have the time to properly assess which Dynamics solution is right for them (it’s always NAV, happy to prove it!).

So for once not a bad thing to say; the promotion will encourage people to look at Dynamics NAV and provides a great incentive to buy. Price shouldn’t be your major decision factor but these days it will be high up there.
