Ian Robinson works on the Support Desk here at TVision. He moved to the UK with his family approximately five years ago and has an extensive knowledge of NAV in his career as an end user.

Name someone you admire, and why?
Lady Ava Lovelace – the first computer programmer.

What’s a typical day like for you?
Sorting out problems from simple ˜just click here” ones to technical problems on SQL servers.

Do you have any skills or talents that most people don’t know about?
I am quite skilled at woodworking and used to make my own furniture. I also installed a new kitchen (including wiring and plumbing) by myself!

If you could be anywhere other than here, right this minute, where would you be:
Sipping a cocktail in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Flashback to when you were 10 years old. What do you want to be when you grow up?
I was about 10 when space invaders came out. I wanted to know how it worked, so IT was inevitable from then on for me.

Finish this sentence. On Sunday mornings, you can usually find me… Eating breakfast – the most important meal of the day.

How do you want people to remember you?
As kind, considerate and fair.

What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your job?
I have knowledge as an end user of NAV.  I understand the frustration of end users when something doesn’t work and I usually understand what they are trying to achieve, which helps me suggest the best solution.

Name something surprising on your bucket list:
I would love to watch a sunset at Ayers Rock (Uluru).

Describe a personal goal that you want to accomplish in the next year?
I want to learn more about machine learning.

What publications do you regularly read?
Linux User, Ubuntu magazines

What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working?
I love doing nothing.

What are some causes you care about?
The environment – we did not inherit this planet from our parents; we are merely looking after it for our children.

What do you do with friends in your spare time?
A traditional South African Braai (like a barbecue but much, much better).

What would be your personal motto?
Make today better than yesterday.  Make tomorrow better than today.
