TVision Technology are delighted to announce that their client, Landmarc Support Services (Landmarc), has successfully migrated to Business Central, Microsoft’s cloud-based business management solution, from its existing NAV system.

The move was part of Landmarc’s digital transformation programme, designed to transition its IT services from traditional on-premise infrastructure to cloud-based solutions.

Moving to a modern SaaS solution

Prior to their move to Business Central, Landmarc, which works with the Ministry of Defence to manage, operate and maintain the UK Defence Training Estate, had been using the on-premise version of NAV 2017 (Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central’s predecessor). Due to the security requirements of the MOD network, Landmarc needed to migrate from an on premise to a cloud-based solution and therefore saw the move to Business Central SaaS as the obvious answer.

Commenting on the project, Graham Cooke, Head of IT at Landmarc, said: “As part of a digital transformation drive across our organisation, we are increasingly looking to cloud rather than our traditional on-premise infrastructure as the platform from which to run our IT Services. We knew we had to upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics NAV to Business Central anyway, so this project was a great proof of concept for us, in terms of how moving our various IT Services to the cloud would work and what type of challenges we might encounter.”

Reaping the benefits of a well-planned go-live process

Landmarc faced a number of challenges when planning their implementation process. Firstly, they make use of a number of bespoke software customisations, such as their Construction Industry Scheme online service, which needed to be migrated to Business Central. Secondly, they also have a number of internal business systems that likewise needed to be integrated. In addition, they needed to ensure that these integrations would continue to function effectively in a cloud environment given the increased security requirements of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation’s (DIO) internet gateway. It was therefore very important to ensure that all aspects of the cut-over process and data migration to the new system were well-planned and robustly tested prior to going live.

In order to ensure that the go-live process went smoothly, Landmarc carried out two test runs. These practice runs provided both Landmarc and TVision with valuable feedback on both the cut-over process and the data migration requirements. This was critical for ensuring that the actual go-live process, which started on 24 March 2023 and was completed on 1 April, was a success.

TVision: A trusted partner

Although it is still early days in Landmarc’s use of Business Central, they are very pleased with how their move to SaaS has already benefitted the business.

Graham continues: “Working with TVision as a trusted partner to operate our Finance Management Service gives us all the expected benefits of a SaaS platform: operational efficiencies in terms of reduced demand on our IT team, quicker turn round for functional enhancements, regular patching, and improved security. We have found TVision be very responsive to queries and issues as they arise, using their detailed knowledge about the intricacies of Business Central to come up with practical solutions to accommodate Landmarc’s specific requirements.”

Speaking about the successful go-live, Andrea Concato, Operations Director at TVision said: “We are delighted that Landmarc’s move to Business Central SaaS went so smoothly.

“Their methodical and well-planned approach to the implementation and go-live process gave us a clear picture of their data migration and system integration requirements and allowed us to plan accordingly. We look forward to continuing our close collaborative working relationship in the future.”
