The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged, and changed, so many businesses. In fact, I’m pretty sure that the changes I’ve seen in the last 18 months have outweighed those of my entire working career. I’ve been the Marketing Manager at TVision for over four years now, and looking at it from an IT infrastructure perspective with so many on premise solutions being used by organisations, the transition to a hybrid working model where most people are working from home has not been easy for everyone.

At TVision, due to the nature of what we do, we were all able to leave the office one day, and start working from home the next. Because of this we have been able to support our existing clients – and new clients – on their enforced path to digital transformation via hybrid working. In fact, January 2021 was a very busy month for us, with the most go-lives for new clients that we have ever experienced in our 20 year history!

With lockdown affording business decision makers the time to review their internal systems, processes, and software – we received many enquiries asking about making the move to Business Central. The enquiries mainly came from businesses who realised their old legacy systems were no longer working effectively, or those who found that they couldn’t access data quickly and easily to make informed business decisions as it was being held in multiple systems.

Business Central – the perfect ERP for hybrid working

Business Central is the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solution from Microsoft, and the one that we implement and support for our clients. If you have ever used any of the Microsoft stack of products, you’d find it very intuitive and easy to use. It brings together financial and operational business processes, such as budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, purchasing, inventory, and reporting, all into a single platform. This eliminates the never ending challenge of silos, keeping business intelligence separate across functional business units. As a result, employees can be more efficient when collaborating together, as well as apart, when working from home as they can self-serve to find the information they’re need. The hybrid working model is here to stay, and with a “work from anywhere, on any device” cloud SaaS solution such as Business Central, can only encourage improved communication and collaboration.

As we are a Microsoft house we use it too, as well as Teams, the Office suite, Power Automate, and SharePoint. Whilst I still really miss seeing my colleagues face to face every day, daily Teams calls are now second nature and I start off every day by speaking with my team and finding out what support or advice is needed and what is on the work plan for the next day or two. We’re now slowly getting back to the office, but in much smaller groups to ensure we can adhere to social distancing.
